I would like to introduce you to my new baby, the Juki MO1000. Set up and test run complete, instructions read. Is it wrong of me to get so excited about this machine? As you can imagine, I had to work up quite a bit of courage to go and purchase this baby. It's taken me a full month of working through my guilt. I think this comes from being a mother and the need to torture yourself with the fact that you should be spending your hard earned cash on your kids. I'm going to call it my moving overseas treat (I will explain the credit card balance later). Hubby was warned!
Anyway, the features that make me jump for joy are:
- Air threading! That's right friends, this baby threads itself. With just a mere press of a button, a blast of air sends the threads to exactly where they need to be. It also has needle threaders. What, you say, no peering into dark crevices and fuddling around trying to fight with little threads. Nope, none of that! I even went out and purchased some different colour matching thread for my next project....what? The days may be over of choosing black or white for all serging for the sake of thread change avoidance.
- You can adjust the cutting width to the narrowest on the market, allowing for nice, tidy curves. This, I haven't actually experimented with yet, but it was a key point I took away from the sales lady. Hope it's true!
- It sounds delicious. It has that lovely smooth whirr that the nicer machines I've ever sewn on have. I am still reeling from the scratchy, torturous sound of the ultra budget Brother I was going to settle for when I first arrived here. You get what you pay for.
Congratulations! Your new baby is gorgeous! I hope you'll do some posts in future about how it works and how you like it. I know that eventually I'm going to grade up from my own ultra-budget Brother, so I may as well start gathering information now!

Right you are Gail! I actually set out to research the infamous Babylock based on others recommendations but found this Juki to have very similar features but for a lot less $$. I will be sure to report back on how I am finding it. ;-)
DeleteFantastic and one that threads itself, how good is that! I did an overlocking course recently and learnt so much about my ancient Bernina and all the wonderful things it can do.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, overlockers are fabulous! I can be guilty of sticking to the same few stitches, purely out of laziness. A course sounds like a fabulous idea...I think I need to sign up ;-)
DeleteWoot, woot! That is one classy serger! WTF? Air threading? That sounds space age and very appealing. I have never changed the thread colour on my overlocker, it's white all the way (shhh don't tell anyone, you can imagine what the inside of my clothes look like, most sewists would shudder). I can't stand the re-threading! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I can totally relate, that is me! I thought I was being very special by occasionally making the effort to change to black (usually very carefully timed with running out of thread!). I still have to give it more of a run to judge it properly (and hopefullyjustify it's cost) but so far I am happy to say that it does actually feel a lot nicer to use than my old $600 Janome (that I was perfectly happy with, and is still stored away in a box somewhere).
